21ic STMicroelectronics (ST) has released the Cannes Wi-Fi (STiH390) SoC, targeting the HD HEVC Wi-Fi® IP client and interactive set-top box market.
When watching a favorite TV show connected to a wireless network via a mobile phone, tablet, and set-top box, users expect a perfect visual experience at home. However, limited network coverage is depressing, which also inhibits the potential of Wi-Fi bearer services, causing MSOs (Multi-Service Operators) to find alternative solutions that are cost-effective, flexible, and easy to install. The Cannes Wi-Fi chipset is compatible with the STMicroelectronics Cannes family of system chips, allowing OEMs to leverage the vast development ecosystem and easily design innovative client set-top boxes with multiple middleware products.
