CSA International, a leading testing and certification organization, announced on November 4, 2010 that it has been accredited by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and has become an independent third-party certification body designated by the Enhanced Energy Star Program. Star requires testing and certification of the product.
Upon approval, CSA International can verify that the manufacturer's products meet the ENERGY STAR program requirements, including testing the product in an EPA-approved laboratory, or by witnessing or supervising the test in the manufacturer's laboratory. Or by verifying test data from independent third-party laboratories licensed by other EPAs. As a certification body designated by the EPA, CSA International will help prove that the manufacturer's products meet the ENERGY STAR requirements and upload data according to the requirements of the EPA to authorize specific manufacturers to use the ENERGY STAR logo for specific products.

The EPA recognizes CSA International's extensive range of products, including: household appliances; heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment; consumer electronics; information technology; lighting; and commercial food service equipment. In addition to being listed as a designated certification body for the ENERGY STAR program, CSA International is also striving to make its branches in Toronto, Cleveland, Vancouver and Irving, California an accredited laboratory for the ENERGY STAR program. CSA's laboratory in Atlanta was approved in September 2010.
CSA International is doubling its service capabilities to meet the growing demand for energy efficiency verification services in the future. In the 53 product categories affected by the ENERGY STAR upgrade, CSA International's services will first cover 35 product categories, which will then be expanded according to customer needs.
In November 2009, the EPA announced that since 2011, the ENERGY STAR program will require third-party test reports for all qualified products. Prior to this, the project allowed companies to declare their products to meet ENERGY STAR requirements. The ENERGY STAR program was launched in 1992 and sets energy efficiency standards that are 10% to 25% higher than the general regulatory requirements.
The EPA's approval only applies to the energy efficiency requirements of the ENERGY STAR program. CSA International is a Nationally Recognized Laboratory (NRTL) and is licensed by the Canadian Standards Council (SCC) for the use of safety standards. With the recognition of the above two authorities, CSA now offers one-stop testing, certification and energy efficiency verification services in the US and Canada.
