China, Beijing – January 12, 2017 – Qorvo, Inc. (Nasdaq: QRVO), an innovative RF solutions provider for the connected world, today announced the launch of a complete system-on-chip for smart home devices (SoC)--- GP695, which supports multiple protocols and has very low power consumption.
In 2015, the shipment of smart home equipment was 40 million units. It is estimated that by 2021, the annual shipment will exceed 600 million units*. Qorvo's support for multi-protocol SoCs will greatly overcome the obstacles caused by the rapid growth of smart homes due to the numerous communication standards, which will greatly promote the development of the smart home market.
The GP695 SoC integrates multiple communication protocols including IEEE 802.15.4, ZigBee® 3.0, Thread and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) for all sensors and actuators in the home. Qorvo's new SoCs enhance smart home networking by supporting these connectivity standards while optimizing energy efficiency and extending battery life.
By supporting these different connectivity options, customers can use a single development platform and a single SKU that are independent of the communication protocol. Therefore, the smart phone BLE connection function for the proximity service can be combined with the Thread or ZigBee 3.0 used by the smart home service. For example, a homeowner can connect a GP695 door lock to a ZigBee smart home system using the phone's BLE protocol. In this way, the phone can be opened or locked by BLE. Further, when it is detected that no one is at home, the intelligent system can automatically lock the door lock through ZigBee.
The GP695 is an effective complement to the Multi-Protocol GP712 and can be used with Smart Home Gateway. The GP712 was launched in 2016 by GreenPeak Technologies, the predecessor of the Qorvo Wireless Connectivity Business Unit.
The GP695 uses the proven ARM® Cortex®-M4 computing architecture, which is used by millions of software developers worldwide. It uses industry-leading Qorvo Wi-Fi anti-jamming technology for longer communication distances across the entire home.
Rethink Technology Research analyst and editor Alex Davies said: "At the end of 2016, we saw smart home devices becoming more and more popular.
