On June 28, according to Reuters, the US Commerce Department said on Monday that the US government has decided to extend the export restrictions on ZTE for another three months, with a deadline of August 30. In March of this year, ZTE was suspected of violating US export control policies against Iran, and the US banned domestic manufacturers from selling components to them.
US delays in sanctions ZTE will allow the latter to continue to export equipment containing US technology. The US Department of Commerce said in March that if ZTE cooperates with the US government, the suspension period can be extended.
Some experts said that the US export restrictions on ZTE are the most stringent ban on sales in history, which may lead to the disruption of ZTE's global supply chain.
The US Department of Commerce’s export restrictions on ZTE include prohibiting US companies from exporting any technology, software or equipment produced in the United States to ZTE. Microsoft can't even sell office software to ZTE, and software upgrades may be banned.
Shortly after the proposed sanctions against ZTE in March, the US Department of Commerce granted ZTE a three-month grace period, ending on June 30. The US Commerce Department issued a notice on Monday to announce the further extension of the sanctions against ZTE.
In an e-mail statement, Zhao Xingming, chairman of ZTE, said that the extension indicated that ZTE complied with relevant US regulations and worked hard to cooperate with the US government's investigation. He said: "This extension will allow ZTE to continue to maintain partnerships with hundreds of US companies and continue to invest in the United States."
