Sony returns to the OLED TV market? Chuan Mingchun sells

The Nikkei News reported on the 29th that Sony will once again enter the OLED TV market. It plans to launch large-size OLED TVs in Europe, the US and China in the spring and summer of 2017, and will decide whether to sell in Japan depending on overseas sales. The panels required for Sony OLED TVs will be procured from South Korea's LG Display (LGD), which is expected to be centered at 65 inches, and the image processing part will use Sony's own technology.

Sony was the first manufacturer to sell OLED TVs in the world. In 2007, it launched 11-inch OLED TV products. However, its sales performance was unsatisfactory. Therefore, it was discontinued in Japan in 2010, and overseas markets stopped selling after inventory was sold out. ,

The report pointed out that Sony's upcoming OLED TV price is undecided, but it is expected to fall to around 1 million yen, which is much higher than the same size (65-inch) LCD TV's 300,000-400,000 yen, but Sony expects OLED TVs to be multiplied with home consoles such as the PS4, as game enthusiasts love TV products that are brighter and more responsive. PS4 currently has a cumulative global sales volume of over 50 million units.

According to reports, Sony TV business lost its profit in 2014 after 10 years of losses, mainly due to the strong sales of 4K TVs with relatively high prices, but the proportion of 4K TV shipments in Japan With more than 30%, prices have begun to ease, so Sony has positioned OLED TVs as the next generation of high-end TVs, hoping to increase TV sales.

South Korea's LG is the main driver of OLED TVs. LGD almost exclusively supplies OLED panels, while LG Electronics is the leader in OLED TVs. In addition, Japan's Panasonic is currently selling OLED TVs in Europe.
