AR optical module manufacturer Yiyou Optoelectronics completed nearly 100 million yuan financing

Haoyou Optoelectronics has recently secured direct investment from prominent Hong Kong-listed optical companies, including Sunny Optics and Kunzhong Capital. This marks a new funding round led by previous investors such as Hengguang Financial and Chenhui Venture Capital. To date, the company has raised nearly 100 million yuan in total financing. Its current focus lies in the integration of semiconductor and optical technologies, with an emphasis on mass-producing three key products: wafer-level optics and DOE devices for 3D depth imaging—particularly for mobile phone applications; optical waveguides used in AR modules, especially those employing wafer-level optics for multi-stage pupil dilation, grating-type waveguides for optical field coupling, and holographic AR imaging; and high-speed parallel optical links between wafers and chips. Wu Zishuo, founding partner at Kunzhong Capital, highlighted that while artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things are advancing rapidly, the underlying physical layer is also undergoing significant transformations. Kunzhong has always aimed to support top teams driving real technological and industrial changes. Their collaboration with Sunny Optics is based on strong recognition of Haoyou’s team and their integration of optics and electronics. The long-term vision for innovation in foundational fields includes: First, looking at the overall trend, the past 70 years have been dominated by semiconductors and integrated circuits. The evolution from single transistors to ICs fueled the information revolution and created countless breakthroughs. However, optics, one of the four major engineering fields alongside mechanics, has historically lagged behind electricity due to higher marginal costs in optical innovation. Today, this dynamic is shifting. As Moore's Law reaches its limits, the future may see a transition from "integrated electricity" to "integrated light." Second, from a productivity standpoint, innovation must be supported by scalable manufacturing processes. Haoyou Optoelectronics is pioneering a new approach by combining semiconductor and wafer-level optical techniques. Traditional optical processing is limited to sub-millimeter or micrometer scales, whereas semiconductor technology offers advanced microscopic processes and large-scale production capabilities. By leveraging these semiconductor techniques, Haoyou can fabricate nanoscale optical components that cold optics cannot achieve, resulting in greater efficiency and lower costs through wafer-level integration. Third, from a commercialization perspective, true innovation should not rely on disruptive models but instead identify incremental opportunities. Haoyou’s wafer-level optics enable new practical applications, such as 3D imaging, face recognition, AR/MR, 5G optical communication, medical imaging, aerospace, defense, and smart industries. Even in traditionally "electrical" areas like AI, photonics can perform parallel convolution operations more efficiently than electronics. Haoyou aims to develop innovative optoelectronic products and use cases through wafer-level optical processes, combining nanoscale precision with traditional cold optics’ sub-millimeter accuracy. Finally, from the company’s own perspective, it holds a competitive edge. Its core R&D and management team includes professors and PhDs from top institutions like Stanford, Rochester, Cambridge, and Zhejiang University, as well as former executives from Microsoft, NASA, Fortis Fiber Optics, Sorebury, and McKinsey. The team has received prestigious awards, including the National Science and Technology Progress Award and the Chinese Electronics Association’s Electronic Science and Technology Award. They also hold dozens of international patents in wafer-level optics. With the recent investment from Sunny Optics and Kunzhong Capital, the company now has a balanced structure across industry, research, management, and capital. In such a cutting-edge field, having such a complete team is truly commendable. Sunny Optics is a global leader in optics, listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Its products span photovoltaics, optical components, and instruments. It is the world's first in automotive camera sales, second in mobile phone camera modules, second in mobile phone lenses, and second in glass lens sales. Sunny provides optical solutions for leading tech companies like Google, Qualcomm, Bosch, Samsung, HP, Panasonic, Sony, Zeiss, Xiaomi, Huawei, and Hikvision. It also supports emerging technologies such as VR, AR, and autonomous driving, offering advanced optical solutions to top global firms.
