AR optical module manufacturer Yiyou Optoelectronics completed nearly 100 million yuan financing

Haoyou Optoelectronics has recently secured direct investment from prominent Hong Kong-listed optical companies, including Sunny Optics and Kunzhong Capital. This marks a new funding round led by previous investors such as Hengguang Financial and Chenhui Venture Capital. To date, the company has raised nearly 100 million yuan in total financing. Its primary focus lies in the integration of semiconductor and optical technologies, with an emphasis on mass-producing three key product categories: wafer-level optics and DOE (Diffractive Optical Elements) for 3D depth imaging—especially for mobile phone applications; optical waveguides for AR (Augmented Reality) modules, particularly those using wafer-level optics for multi-stage pupil expansion, grating-type waveguides for optical field coupling, and holographic AR imaging; and high-speed parallel optical links between wafers and chips. Wu Zishuo, founding partner of Kunzhong Capital, highlighted that as AI and IoT continue to evolve rapidly, the market's attention is also shifting toward deeper technological innovations. He emphasized that while top-tier innovation garners much recognition, the foundational physics layer is undergoing significant and far-reaching transformations. Kunzhong has always aimed to support the most capable teams in driving real technological and industrial changes. Their collaboration with Sunny Optics reflects their confidence in the team’s expertise and the potential of integrating optoelectronics and semiconductors. Looking at the broader trend, the past 70 years have been dominated by semiconductors and integrated circuits, which have driven the information revolution. However, optical technology has historically lagged behind electrical systems due to higher costs of innovation. Today, this dynamic is changing. As Moore’s Law reaches its limits, the industry is shifting from "integrated electricity" to "integrated light." From a production standpoint, innovation requires scalable manufacturing. Haoyou Optoelectronics is pioneering a new approach by combining semiconductor and wafer-level optical processes. Traditional optical techniques are limited in scale and precision, typically working at sub-millimeter or micrometer levels. In contrast, semiconductor technology offers advanced microscopic processes and large-scale manufacturing capabilities. By leveraging these, Haoyou is able to create nanoscale optical components that cold optics cannot achieve, leading to higher efficiency and lower costs. In terms of commercialization, true innovation should not rely on disruptive models but rather on incremental improvements and new use cases. Wafer-level optics is enabling breakthroughs in areas like 3D imaging, face recognition, AR/MR, 5G optical communication, medical imaging, and even AI. For instance, photonics can perform parallel convolution operations more efficiently than electronics, offering a unique advantage in AI processing. The company’s core R&D and management team includes professors and Ph.Ds from prestigious institutions like Stanford, Rochester, Cambridge, and Zhejiang University, as well as former executives from Microsoft, NASA, Fortis Fiber Optics, Sorebury, and McKinsey. The team has received multiple national awards and holds numerous international patents in wafer-level optics. With the latest investments from Sunny Optics and Kunzhong Capital, the company now benefits from a balanced structure across industry, research, management, and capital—particularly impressive in such a cutting-edge field. Sunny Optics, a global optical giant listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, is a major player in photovoltaics, optical components, and instruments. It leads in automotive camera sales, ranks second in mobile phone camera modules, lenses, and glass lenses globally. The company provides optical solutions to tech giants like Google, Qualcomm, Bosch, Samsung, HP, Panasonic, Sony, Zeiss, Xiaomi, Huawei, and Hikvision. Additionally, it offers cutting-edge solutions for emerging fields like VR, AR, and autonomous driving.
