DOE plans to subsidize the solid-state lighting project Cree and other five plants with a $10.1 million subsidy

A few days ago, in response to the solid-state lighting subsidy program announced in December 2012, the US Department of Energy (DOE) selected five solid-state lighting projects as the fourth round of subsidies. The subsidy program lasts two years and will focus on reducing costs while improving the quality and performance of LEDs and OLEDs. The total amount of subsidies for the five projects was $10.1 million.

According to the latest report from the US Department of Energy, the installed capacity of LED lamps in the United States has increased tenfold in the past two years, from 4.5 million in 2010 to 49 million in 2012, with an estimated annual energy savings of $675 million. By 2030, LED lighting is expected to account for 75% of total lighting sales, and energy-efficient energy can be used by 26 million American households.

The five subsidized companies are: Cree (2.3 million US dollars subsidy), Eaton (2.4 million US dollars subsidy), OLEDWorks (1 million US dollars subsidy), Philips Lumileds (1.8 million US dollars subsidy), PPG Industrial Company (2.3 million) US dollar subsidy)
