Nakamura Shuji expands the Japanese market and is committed to white LED lighting

According to reports, Soraa, a US LED lighting company co-founded by Shuji Nakamura, a professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), recently set up an office in Yokohama, Japan. It is expected that the Japanese corporation will be formally established in May 2015. In the future, we will expand the LED lighting business and expand the Japanese market in an all-round way.

In 2008, Nakamura and two UCSB professors founded Soraa. In 2012, they started selling LED lights. The company's total turnover has grown to 4 billion yen. In response to the development of the Japanese market, Soraa sold LED lights through USHIO Lighting two years ago. This time, it announced that it will set up a company in Japan. The target revenue in Japan in 2015 can be doubled compared to 2014. Billion yen.

Soraa is committed to creating white LED lighting that is closest to natural light, and its products are mainly used in high-end restaurants and restaurants. Generally, the white LED that we have seen is a yellow fluorescent material excited by a blue LED wafer. The wavelength and color temperature of the LED are relatively uneven, and it is difficult to improve the average color rendering index (Ra).

Soraa is a purple LED chip, which is composed of red, green and blue fluorescent materials to form a white LED. It can output light in all visible wavelength ranges and has a high Ra value. Soraa uses a "GaN on GaN" technology that grows GaN crystals on a gallium nitride (GaN) substrate to fabricate purple LEDs with higher crystal quality than sapphire or tantalum carbide (SiC) substrates.

According to Nikkei Technology Online, the general LED chip has a quadrangular shape, while the Soraa purple LED chip has a unique triangle shape and high luminous efficiency. Because of its good crystal quality, the triangular portion is not easily damaged and can be fully illuminated.

Nakamura said that the blue LED itself has a color difference, so that the white light produced also has errors; Soraa uses white LEDs made of purple LEDs with color consistency, which is cleaner and more beautiful. Nakamura and Soraa continue to focus on GaN on GaN technology to create excellent LED lighting products with perfect crystallisation.

Soraa was established in Japan this year and plans to make an initial public offering (IPO) three years later.
