Asphalt Sampling Safety and Procedure Guide

Proper use of the asphalt sampler is essential to ensure accurate results and maintain safety during the sampling process. Follow the guidelines below carefully:

  1. The anti-static sampling rope must be securely grounded at one end, while the other end should be firmly connected to the entire sampling device to prevent static buildup.
  2. Before approaching the tank, touch the metal surface of the tank with your hand to discharge any static electricity that may have accumulated on your body.
  3. Lower the entire sampling device slowly into the tank at a rate not exceeding 1 meter per second until it reaches the desired sampling depth. As the device enters the oil, you may notice bubbles forming. When no more bubbles appear, this indicates that the sampler is fully submerged and ready for sample collection.
  4. Once the sample is collected, carefully lift the anti-static rope and transfer the sample to a clean container. After sampling is complete, wipe the device clean and store it in a safe, dry location to prevent contamination or damage.
  5. When raising the petroleum product sampler from the tank, make sure it does not come into contact with the metal walls of the tank. This helps reduce the risk of electrostatic discharge, which can be dangerous in flammable environments.

By following these steps, you can ensure both the accuracy of your samples and the safety of the personnel involved. Always double-check equipment condition and environmental factors before starting the sampling process.
