What Challenges Must Be Overcome to Build an LED Lighting Terminal Brand in Xiamen?

On July 28th, 2017, thirteen national ministries and commissions, including the National Development and Reform Commission, jointly released the "13th Five-Year Development Plan for the Semiconductor Lighting Industry." This plan is widely seen as a positive policy initiative, and Xiamen, a city renowned as one of the birthplaces of China's LED lighting industry, now has the opportunity to develop end-user products, upgrade lighting technologies, and foster the creation of independent lighting brands. This move is expected to bring significant benefits to Xiamen, particularly to its LED lighting terminal enterprises. However, several challenges must still be addressed in this process.

Benefit: Government Support for Lighting Companies
Currently, Xiamen has become home to numerous industry leaders like Sanan Optoelectronics, Ganzhao Optoelectronics, Xiamen Cinda, Lidaxin, and Guangqi. The LED industry in Xiamen covers upstream, midstream, and downstream segments and has established a relatively complete industrial ecosystem.
During the 12th Five-Year Plan period, the Xiamen government invested more than 40 million yuan to support 14 major LED technology research and industrialization projects, driving a total social investment of nearly 820 million yuan. This year, enterprises such as Sanan Optoelectronics, Ganzhao Optoelectronics, and Xiamen Cinda received various subsidies from the local government, amounting to 100 million yuan, 37.548 million yuan, and 43 million yuan respectively.
Looking ahead, as the Xiamen government continues to promote the development of independent brand lighting terminals, it is anticipated that lighting companies will receive further support in this regard, which will undoubtedly be a significant boost for Xiamen's lighting companies.
Overseas Markets Need Smart Upgrades
Thanks to its geographical advantages, exports have long been a strong suit for Xiamen's LED companies. Data shows that 30 out of every 100 LED bulbs worldwide are manufactured and exported from Xiamen. Particularly in the high-end LED bulb market, Xiamen accounts for approximately 30% of the country's exports.
However, with the advent of the intelligent lighting era, global giants are already deploying smart lighting solutions. Overseas markets are poised to embrace smart lighting products. Currently, only a few brands from Xiamen are recognized internationally. To maintain its export advantages in the new era, more Xiamen lighting companies will need to continuously transform and upgrade their LED smart lighting and lighting systems.

To help Xiamen lighting companies discover the latest and most innovative LED smart lighting technology solutions, enabling them to quickly adapt to the transformation and upgrade of intelligent lighting, on August 25, 2017, Dabit held the "24th (Xiamen) LED Lighting Driver and Intelligent Lighting Technology Seminar" at the banquet hall on the third floor of the Westin Xiamen.
At the conference, eight VIP speakers, including Infineon and Jingfeng Mingyuan, delivered insightful speeches on hot topics such as LED intelligent lighting solutions and intelligent lighting dimming technology. They also built a platform for communication on key technologies such as drivers, controls, cloud platforms, and IoT communications.
Brand Competition is Intense
Xiamen faces fierce competition from peers, particularly from the Pearl River Delta region, which has a clear advantage in lighting brands. Well-known enterprises such as Ou Pu, NVC, TCL, Foshan Lighting, Sanxiong Aurora, and others are all headquartered in the Pearl River Delta. These established brands will undoubtedly squeeze the growth space for Xiamen lighting enterprises.
According to the responsible person from the Xiamen Economic and Information Bureau, the current LED industry in Xiamen requires a strong industrial chain to facilitate its transformation and upgrading. Therefore, addressing the issue of supply chain support is the most pressing task at present. Strengthening cooperation within the LED lighting industrial chain, improving the LED lighting supply ecosystem, enhancing the relationships between suppliers and enterprises, promoting collaboration intentions between suppliers and enterprises, and meeting the substantial procurement demands of LED lighting enterprises are key to the development of Xiamen's LED lighting industry.
The "24th (Xiamen) LED Lighting Driver and Intelligent Lighting Technology Seminar" also aims to create a platform for rapid communication and connection, helping companies quickly identify suppliers and address issues related to industrial chain coordination. Additionally, the exhibition site features a display area showcasing a wide range of products, offering the most cost-effective products and solutions.
