This is another major move in the Chinese market following the acquisition of Hua Gang Optoelectronics in 2007. Cree will be the only company among the world's four largest chip giants with packaging and chip factories in China.

    According to reports, the Huizhou LED chip factory under construction will be the first chip production base outside of North America. The base covers an area of ​​35,000 square meters and is expected to be officially put into operation in the middle of next year. Cree plans to introduce the cutting, testing and grading of the pre-processed wafers of the LED package, that is, the technology of the epitaxial wafer processing part into China. At present, Cree has completed the registration of the new company with a registered capital of 50 million US dollars.

    In his speech, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province, Qi Xing, said that there are more than 1,000 LED production and R&D enterprises in the Pearl River Delta, accounting for 70% of the country and 50% of the world. The company's GaN and SiC technologies are unique in the world, with silicon carbide chips accounting for 80% of the global market. Currently, there are 825 US patents and 1,800 foreign patents. Previously, the company had an LED packaging factory in Huizhou, Guangdong.

    Cree's Huizhou LED chip project will profoundly affect the domestic LED chip industry.
