Future LED application market development forecast (data map)

High-brightness LEDs are growing rapidly and gradually become mainstream products.

According to the statistics of the United States Strategies Unlimited, the global LED market has grown at an average annual growth rate of more than 20%. In 2005, the market scale exceeded US$6 billion. Among them, the high-brightness LEDs grew at an average annual rate of 46% between 1995 and 2004. At $4.2 billion, the market share of the entire LED product increased from 40% in 2001 to more than 70% in 2005 (see Figure 16).

Since 1998, mobile phones have started to use high-brightness LEDs as keynotes for mobile phones, which has led to the first wave of growth in the global high-brightness LED market. In 2000-2001, the global economic growth was slow, and Taiwan’s LED manufacturers expanded significantly. The production capacity has led to a imbalance in the supply and demand of the market. The global high-brightness LED market has shown a small decline. Since 2002, mobile phones have begun to use blue LEDs as the side-view of mobile phone panels, making the high-brightness LED market a second wave of growth. In recent years, with the expansion of LED in new applications such as automotive lighting, small-sized panel backlights and indoor lighting, high-brightness LEDs have been in a high-speed growth stage for the past few years, and the proportion in LEDs will gradually increase, becoming LEDs. Mainstream products.

Highlight LED application market distribution trend

High-brightness LEDs have matured in many fields such as mobile phones, displays, automobiles, traffic signals, landscape decoration, and special work lighting. Among them, the mobile phone backlight market has a major share, accounting for 40%-45% in 2002-2005, accounting for half of the high-brightness LED applications (see Figure 17); the market share of indications/displays has experienced a slight decline in 2003. Stable (about 16%), automotive lighting is currently concentrated in the taillights and the third brake lights, etc., in recent years, basically maintained a market share of 16%, lighting (mainly for special lighting) showed a small increase year by year, is expected 2006 It accounts for about 10% of the year. With the decline in LED luminous efficiency and cost, it is expected that the share of large and medium-sized LCD backlights, lamps and lighting will increase significantly in the next few years.

Future LED application field growth trend

In the past few years, the mobile phone application field, which has led to the rapid growth of LEDs, is expected to slow down its application output after 2006. Emerging applications such as large-size LCD panel backlights, automotive lighting, camera flash, and indoor lighting markets are poised for growth in the next few years.

In 2005-2010, the growth rate of LCD liquid crystal backlights, general lighting and automotive LEDs was about 219%, 44%, and 35% respectively (see Figure 18), which will continue to drive strong growth of bright LEDs; After the climax of 2002-2005, it is expected to grow at an average annual rate of about 8.6% in the next four years. It is expected that the LED market for large-size LCD backlights will surpass the small-size backlight market such as mobile phones by 2010, becoming the first application of high-brightness LEDs.

Driven by the above several emerging fields, the future global high-brightness LED will be a breakthrough in different periods and different fields, which will continue to drive the global high-brightness LED market to grow at a rate of 14%. It is expected to be globally high in 2009. The market for bright LEDs will reach $7.2 billion (see Figure 19).
