Analog Devices, Inc. recently introduced the MEMS microphone family - ADMP421 and ADMP401. Despite the ever-increasing number of electronic devices that integrate voice, music and video, the sound quality of these handheld electronic products has not met consumer expectations. ADI's latest microphones, known to audio enthusiasts for providing high-fidelity audio technology, feature high-fidelity audio/video playback, conference calling, TIA-920-compatible VoIP, voice recognition and more. ADI's combination of audio applications and MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) technology has resulted in a new line of microphones with the industry's highest signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of greater than 61 dB (A-weighted), the highest in cellular phones today. The quality sound is only 55 dB. The new omni-directional input microphone provides digital output or analog output with the industry's flattest frequency response from 100 Hz to over 15k Hz, and the package size and cost meet the design requirements of portable electronics manufacturers.

The ADMP421 PDM (Pulse Density Modulation) digital output MEMS microphone is designed for multimedia and VoIP cellular phones, Bluetooth headsets and other systems that rely on high quality digital video and audio. The digital output of the new ADMP421 microphone is highly resistant to RF (Radio frequency) and EMI (electromagnetic interference) Coupling noise radiated from WiFi antennas and LCD (liquid crystal display) clock signals. By eliminating the need for analog signal conditioning and cable shielding materials commonly used to relay analog signals, system designers can optimize the layout of the ADMP421 digital MEMS microphone to improve audio enhancement features such as stereo and array beamforming. The ADMP421 features FS PSRR (power supply rejection ratio) better than -70dB, left/right channel selection, and integrated sleep mode.

In addition to providing the industry's best signal-to-noise ratio and frequency response, Analog Devices' ADMP401 analog output MEMS microphones offer superior PSRR better than -50 dBV, simplifying the power supply design requirements for microphones in near-field and far-field applications.
Supply and quotation

Samples of the ADMP401 analog output MEMS microphone and the ADMP421 digital output MEMS microphone are available in a 4.72mm x 3.76mm x 1.0mm thin surface mount package and a 4.0mm x 3.0mm x 1.0mm surface mount package. The ADMP401 is priced at $1.63 per piece in 1,000-piece quantities and $2.04 per piece in ADMP421.
