The navigation light consists of a light source, a circuit, a battery, and a casing. From the 1970s to the end of the 1980s, almost all of the navigation lights on the Yangtze River channel used incandescent bulbs and neon tubes. These two kinds of light sources are easy to damage, difficult to repair, short in life, high in power consumption, and the damage rate is 45%.

In order to overcome the above shortcomings, Zheng Qixiang, who was transferred from the military to the instrument repair team at the Honghu Channel of the Yangtze River Waterway Bureau, self-study the cultural courses of junior high school and high school, self-repaired e-learning classes, and devoted himself to the improvement and development of the navigation lights. From his many years of repair experience, after comparative analysis, he felt that the use of light-emitting diodes to form a new light source, the luminous effect is very good, so decided to use 8 light-emitting diodes to form a plum-shaped light source. The test results show that the new light source will increase the line of sight and luminous brightness of the beacon light from 2.5 km to 5 km. After more than a year of trials, he found that the lamp has problems such as rusting and breaking of metal pins, easy water ingress, and poor contact of the lamp holder.

Zheng Qixiang also used his brains to learn and absorb advanced technologies such as LEDs at home and abroad. He decided to injection-molded LED cores into a whole and form an integrated new beacon light source. The advent of this light source completely replaced the original incandescent lamp and neon light source, and the brightness increased by 2 times, and the power consumption was only one third. This research achievement won the Outstanding Award of the former Ministry of Communications in 2003 and the national patent in November 2004. A senior expert from the former Ministry of Communications said in the assessment of this achievement: the new navigation light source has an epoch-making significance!

After completing the renovation of the new light source, Zheng Qixiang has more confidence and decided to target his innovation goal to the solar integrated beacon light with international advanced level. The development of solar integrated navigation lights is not an easy task. The light source, light source circuit, solar panel size, angle, and material have unfamiliar content in every link. Finding information through multiple channels, soliciting opinions, collecting data, modifying parameters, trial and error, and failing again and again did not knock down the tough guy who was physically ill and tenacious.

In early May 2005, the 5盏 solar integrated navigation beacon was first tested at the Honghu Channel. As a result, the technical indicators of the lamp can meet the needs of the channel maintenance and production, and have a novel shape, energy saving, low volume and low cost, economical and practical, no The advantages of pollution and convenient installation not only improve the maintenance quality of the navigation channel, but also reduce the cost of the navigation channel, represent the development direction of the modern navigation mark, and fill the gap of the domestic solar navigation beacon.

In April 2006, the solar integrated navigation light was awarded the national design patent. In August, the Science and Technology Department of Hubei Province organized an expert group composed of academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Wuhan to conduct technical appraisal of solar integrated navigation lights. After review by experts, it is agreed that the research results of HD100 solar integrated navigation light are at the international advanced level of the same type.

According to the needs of domestic and foreign markets, Zheng Qixiang has set a goal to develop a series of navigation light products to adapt to the application of the entire Yangtze River and coastal areas. Since then, he has developed high-power, high-energy HD155 solar energy, which has been promoted and applied in the Three Gorges reservoir area, the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, the Guangxi Beihai, and the North Jiangsu Canal.
