The AFS of the headlights uses Osram's Oslon Compact LEDs. This product was first released in 2012 with a package size of only 1.6mm x 1.2mm. Its UX:3 chip technology enables LED lamps to achieve high luminous efficacy even at high currents.
In order to get the most appropriate distribution of the illumination of the LED lights, Mercedes installed a camera on the windshield of the car to capture the area in front of the vehicle. The four controllers in the car can calculate speeds of up to 100 times per second, choosing the best lighting solution for the driver.
Osram said that AFS based on LED lights can reasonably distribute and precisely control the illumination while illuminating the road without affecting other drivers and pedestrians.
