Recently, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) introduced a new surface mount chip resistor known as the E/H (Ta₂N) QPL. This component has passed rigorous testing under MIL-PRF-55342 standards and offers a failure rate of just 100 ppm "M" grade. The E/H (Ta₂N) QPL resistors are built using moisture-resistant tantalum nitride resistive film technology, making them ideal for demanding defense and aerospace applications. These devices provide exceptional performance, including 0.1% tolerance and a temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) of 25ppm/°C.

The E/H (Taâ‚‚N) QPL resistors are particularly well-suited for control systems in environments where exposure to moisture or long-term storage is a concern. Their tantalum nitride resistive film provides moisture resistance that exceeds the MIL-PRF-55342 standard by more than 50 times, ensuring reliable performance even in harsh conditions.
Additionally, these thin-film resistors offer extremely low noise levels, below -25 dB, and a voltage coefficient of just 0.5 ppm/V. The resistor's construction includes a highly viscous adhesive layer at the wound end, along with an electroplated nickel gate layer that allows operation up to +150°C with a typical resistance of less than 0.010 Ω.
The E/H (Ta₂N) QPL resistors are available in M55342 dimensions ranging from 01 to 12, with power ratings from 50mW to 1000mW and operating voltages between 40V and 200V. Resistance values range from 49.9Ω to 3.3MΩ, depending on the specified tolerance.
Vishay has started volume production of the E/H (Ta₂N) QPL resistors, with lead times ranging from eight to ten weeks. This latest offering demonstrates the company’s commitment to delivering high-performance components for critical applications in defense and aerospace sectors.
