On August 24, ZTE Corporation (stock codes: 000063.SZ and 00763.HK) released its semi-annual financial report for 2017. For the six months ending June 30, 2017, the company reported total revenue of RMB 54.006 billion, representing a 13.09% increase from the same period last year. The net profit attributable to ordinary shareholders of listed companies stood at RMB 2.293 billion, marking a year-over-year rise of 29.8%, while the basic earnings per share were RMB 0.55.
The impressive performance can be attributed primarily to the robust growth in the two main business segments—operator networks and consumer business. These segments saw significant increases in operating income compared to the same period in 2016.
In the first half of 2017, ZTE's operator network generated operating income of RMB 32.352 billion, while government business contributed RMB 3.765 billion, and consumer business brought in RMB 17.894 billion.
Within the operator network segment, revenues grew by 12.58% year-on-year, driven by strong domestic demand for 4G system products, fixed network solutions, and wireless products in Europe. Meanwhile, the consumer business experienced a 24.13% year-on-year increase, largely due to higher sales of international mobile phones and domestic family terminal products. However, corporate business revenue fell by 18.27% year-on-year, impacted by declining project incomes both domestically and internationally.
