RGB Ambient Light Solution with LIN Automatic Addressing - E521.31

Germany's Elmos has announced the launch of a highly integrated single-chip solution E521.31, which is mainly used in automotive RGB ambient lights. The E521.31 chip has a LIN bus auto-addressing function, which is specially designed for the RGB-LED ambience lamp in the car. The external circuit design is flexible and extremely compact.

The chip can drive up to 6 or more RGB LED lights in the multiplex mode, enabling a single chip to dynamically dim the whole, and the best cost performance. In addition to its use in RGB ambient light applications, this solution can also be used in infotainment applications for automotive interiors and exteriors. For example, dashboard indications, battery status information, and on-board electronic information display applications. It is worth noting that in addition to RGB, the chip can also be used in automotive rearview mirror adjustment, seat heating and other fields.

The internal functional modules of the chip can be divided into two large blocks, a digital part and an analog part. The digital part mainly refers to 16-bit MCU and peripherals and LIN automatic addressing bus transceiver using Bus-Shunt-Method. The analog part is the internal power supply and RGB LED driver module. The MCU has 32kB to 52KB of flash and 1kB of RAM. In addition, the chip is also designed with multiple ADCs, which can be used to detect RGB current, voltage and temperature sensor information. In flash mode, the chip can be quickly programmed (115kBd) via the LIN bus. In the analog part, the E521.31 integrates an LDO and can output a 5V/100mA power supply. In switch mode, each RGB output can drive up to 50mA of LED load.

The chip uses BSM (Bus-Shunt-Method) technology to automatically address multiple nodes on the LIN bus. Elmos integrates this technology into other products and has been deployed on multiple platforms in many OEMs. Used in bulk. For example, automotive air conditioning system damper control, reversing radar, etc. In the past 10 years, the products using this technology have achieved excellent performance and have proven to be a stable and very reliable technology. At the same time, Elmos has prepared development and diagnostic tools that make the user's development process very easy. This technology also shows a very good fault tolerance mechanism, such as "ground wire off." In terms of node connections, automatically addressed LIN nodes can be mixed with standard LIN nodes, which allows nodes that do not support automatic BSM addressing to be integrated into the system. Thus, each device on the bus can be accessed and communicated at any time, even during addressing, so that information on the bus can be sent to each node device. In the BSM-based system, the software design of the slave node is very simple, and the master node can judge the rationality of the address at any time. It is worth mentioning that it is also special in troubleshooting address assignments.

The chip is packaged in QFN32L5, and the E521.31 LIN transceiver meets the LIN2.1 standard to meet the harsh environment of automotive electronics.
