U.S. and Japan will cooperate in the development of supercomputers The U.S. and Japan governments will cooperate in the development of a new generation of supercomputers to combat the recent Tianhe No. 2 supercomputer.

The University of Tokyo and Fujitsu participated in the sub-project and stated that they will jointly develop an operating system (OS) for driving supercomputers in the future to gain control of the international competition. The new generation of supercomputers will have 100 trillion calculations. Strive to complete around 2020, Europe and China are also promoting similar development. The new generation of supercomputers will increase their CPUs (central processing units) to several hundred thousand or more. They cannot be driven by the current supercomputer operating system Linux.

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan and the United States Department of Energy have recently reached an agreement on joint development. The project will be launched soon, and Hitachi and the Ricoh Chemical Research Institute will also participate in the project, using basic technologies developed by researchers at the University of Tokyo, and the U.S. Department of Energy. The Argonne National Laboratory collaborates to develop a supercomputer operating system.

It is understood that in the latest ranking of supercomputers, China's "Tianhe 2" has leapt to the top of the list, and it has now entered the era of US, Japan, Europe and China.
