The Internet of Things (IoT) aims to realize the concept of the Internet of Everything, where a vast amount of data will be generated and processed. As a result, cloud platforms have become a critical technology in this ecosystem. One of the most pressing challenges today is how to effectively manage and scale IoT server clouds.
At the 2017 China Internet of Things Conference, officials from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology highlighted that China's IoT sector is undergoing rapid growth, with a market size exceeding 900 billion yuan. Supported by national policies, the deployment of mobile IoT networks continues to expand, and IoT applications are expected to be a major area of future development. Recently, a notable solution called Swoole IoT Cloud Platform has emerged, focusing on providing a robust server communication solution for IoT. It supports multiple hardware platforms and communication protocols, offering a comprehensive software framework that enables seamless interaction between different devices, vendors, and brands.
While many companies in the IoT space focus on hardware and terminals, Swoole positions itself in the software domain, specifically in server communication. In the IoT software landscape, there are numerous proprietary protocols from various manufacturers. Swoole’s goal is to develop a universal platform that can adapt to these different protocols, using a unified technical approach to bridge the gaps and enable smooth cloud-based communication among different vendors.
The Swoole IoT Cloud Platform offers four main advantages: first, it allows for fast iteration and supports PHP dynamic scripting without the need for compilation, enabling direct open-source operation and hot deployment. Second, its open-source technology is well-established, having been tested by a large user base and commercial environments, which has helped build a strong technical reputation. Third, it reduces R&D costs and simplifies development due to its low technical complexity and ease of debugging. Fourth, it supports open protocols, facilitating full network connectivity.
Currently, Swoole has launched a commercial version that provides technical services and generates revenue. The platform serves well-known companies such as Tencent, Baidu, Didi, Weibo, Bilibili, and others. Its technical community includes over 10,000 online engineers.
Technically, Swoole is capable of handling millions of concurrent network connections. Built using pure C, it ensures high performance and stability while supporting PHP scripting, which boosts development efficiency by up to ten times compared to languages like C++ or Java. The company has also developed commercial products such as Swoole Compiler and Swoole Plus.
"Swoole technology has been under development for more than seven years. Compared to other platforms, we have built a strong reputation within the tech community," said founder Han Tianfeng. He emphasized that Swoole's open-source contributions are a key advantage, and the company has developed software for source code protection and data security—areas that remain relatively niche but offer both open-source upgrades and commercial versions.
In terms of profitability, the platform generates income through software sales and service fees via private clouds, and device access fees through public clouds. For commercial promotion, Swoole collaborates with electronic equipment manufacturers, leveraging industry exhibitions and tech communities to raise awareness.
Currently, Swoole is seeking 5 million yuan in angel funding, aiming to sell 10% of its shares. The funds will be used for product development and marketing efforts.
On the team front, founder Han Tianfeng graduated from China University of Geosciences and has worked at companies like Tencent, Alibaba, Huya, and Youku, gaining extensive technical experience. CTO Guo Xinhua, who graduated from Shenyang Institute of Chemical Technology, has prior experience at Sina Weibo and Jumei Youpin, bringing deep expertise in software engineering. CMO Dou Kun is responsible for international marketing, particularly in Europe and the U.S.
